House: Geared for an All-ages Audience

(My Original Blog Post: http://ping.fm/Cdr9c)

Fans of the Fox network's medical drama television series House have enjoyed the presence of its titular antihero over the course of several seasons, whose appeal as a character has been said to cross over generations in spite of age. Gregory House is a maverick doctor and medical genius who manages to both be unpleasant and charismatic at the same time with his high level of intelligence, whose deductive and analytical ability was based on the classic character of Detective Sherlock Holmes. The American character of House is played by Hugh Laurie, a 48-year-old British acting veteran well-known for his role on the series Blackadder together with Rowan Atkinson.

Laurie portrays House with a perfect transformation of his accent. Aside from achieving critical acclaim and winning a number of awards for his acting prowess, Laurie has also stated that he feels equally proud to be considered a favorite among the younger crowd of television viewers in the United States. After being chosen as Teen Choice TV Actor, he jokingly stated that he felt especially pleased considering the fact that his rivals for the award all probably had ages which, when added up, still weren't as old as Laurie himself were.

He also shared his views on the pervading and continuing popularity of the character. Laurie explained that he believed House was popular with more aged fans because he represented the impatience that older people had with the ongoing pace of the modern age's developments, which allegedly eschew proper scientific methods for more emotional approaches. But at the same time, impatient young teenagers who dislike life's regulations and restrictions also find a kindred spirit in the rule-breaking medical genius. But despite the show's ongoing success, Laurie admitted that he was afraid it could simply die out at any time and lose popularity.
